Margiela have produced another beautiful yet wearable collection for SS ‘12. The muted colour palette is broken up by vibrant splashes of red and blue, while all- over patterns and prints also feature.
Our favourite piece was a hybrid between a dinner jacket and a perfecto (a leather biker jacket). It is a wonderful piece that deftly bridged the gap between formal and informal; you could wear it to dinner or simply with jeans and a t-shirt.
Once again on the footwear front MMM introduced some new ideas to inject some vitality into their ever popular styles. Using the “san crespino” technique gives a beautiful artisanal feel to classic styles, while the hand painted jute on the replica sneaker, the slip shoe, and a number of accessories further confirmed Margiela’s reputation as innovators.
Finally, illusion formed the conceptual base for this season’s jewellery collection, with necklaces and rings made from transparent materials to give the impression of invisibility.
