TOMAHAWK by The Go! Team
The Go! Team’s sounds is a unique mix of styles from super¬charged garage rock to old school hip hop to motown and 60s girl groups with hugely inventive sampling thrown in from blaxploita¬tion and Bollywood soundtracks; double-dutch chants, late 60s pysch and everything in between.
When we asked The Go! Team to put together a mixtape they followed the same formula to great effect, mixing in indie faves Best Coast and Yo La Tengo with old school rap from Tanya Winley, indietronica from The Octopus Project and ending with a flourish from Ennio Morricone
"I guess this mix is a good insight into the Go! Team’s inspiration - I've always loved cute stuff as much as noise, and always put feel above perfection. I love contrast and the idea of wildly different stuff rubbing shoulders. We got the woozy noise of Deerhoof and My Bloody Valentine, the 60s grrl group stomp of the Yum Yums and the Revlons, some groovy instrumentals from the Australian library music composer Sven Libaek and a stunning song from the Kelly’s Heroes soundtrack by Lalo Shifrin and it’s all rounded off with a seriously epic Ennio Morricone track. You'll notice there aren’t too many male singers in here – that’s just my taste and it always been a kinda Go! Team policy - no male singers (apart from Chuck D) - female rappers, riot grrl, girl groups. Hope you dig...."
