Label-mates of recent MIX SERIES contributor Flume, Sydney five-piece Panama add further evidence to the growing suspicion that Australia is the most interesting place for new music at the moment.
Headed by Jarrah McCleary, Panama specialise in a warm, '80s-inflected sound that they call "hopeful house music". Already an act with pedigree, Panama's debut EP, It's Not Over, was produced by the DFA producer Eric Broucek, who has previously work for the mighty LCD Soundsystem.
For their mix, Panama have focused on the '80s influences that inform their sound, as Jarrah explains:
"Not dissimilar to the theme that Still Corners used for their mix, I wanted to present a mix of my favourite 80s soundtrack songs that people may not have heard before. Panama's style draws heavily from 80s synth-based music, and my passion for film and screen music writing made for the perfect combination for the theme of this mix."
Panama's new EP is out now on Future Classics. For more information, you can follow them on Facebook.
