Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Laurel Halo makes music that isn’t so much about where she’s from but where she imagines herself going. Her breakthrough release last year, King Felix EP release by Hippos in Tanks, was a collection of lush and futuristic art-pop songs inspired by the sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick’s novel VALIS, and similar space-age themes inspire her other releases including her most recent effort, 'Hour Logic'.
For her mix, SEASONS, Laurel has served up a smorgasbord of sounds that have inspired her and which feed directly into her own work, as she explains.
"Seasons is named after the DJ Godfather track at the beginning -- in it this heartbreaking chord progression supports an equally heartbreaking line... ‘it's like a summer koan, no-weather dread’.
The mix combines dub, hip-hop, ambient/melodic techno (including my favorite comedian-producer of all time), weird cuts and echo. All these tracks inspire my upcoming releases in some form or another. Weather for the endless season! "
