REINCARNATION by CFCF

After providing the soundtrack to our spring/summer '11 preview video, CFCF returns to oki-ni with REINCARNATION, an eclectic and haunting mix combining his current fixations, a few oddities, and a handful of previously unheard CFCF tracks, made exclusively for this mix.

Montreal’s CFCF - real name Michael Silver – has come a long way since making music in his bedroom aged 12. Establishing himself as a prodigious remixer, CFCF is now signed to oh-so-trendy Brooklyn label RVNG and has released a debut album and a handful of EPs including the haunting and well-received, The River.

As a mix REINCARNATION contains the same synth-heavy melancholy as The River, while also being more of a mixed bag. It is a mixture of CFCF’s current fixations, dancefloor favourites, and a liberal sprinkling of ‘strange ones’, the most strange being from the expansive Japanese music collective Geinoh Yamashirogumi.

However, despite – and perhaps even because of - the strange moments, this mix retains both teen angst and a boyish sense of wonder, typical of an artist who began his career in his bedroom, making and listening to music just for the fun of it.
