PORTERHOUSEBLUES by Bill Brewster

Count your blessings, because this week not only are we bringing you a mix from one of the world's most accomplished DJs but we are also launching an amazing competition to win tickets, travel and accommodation for two of Croatia's premier music festivals.

[Competition now closed]

Bill Brewster, the Grimsby-born lad, started out as a DJ around Harlem and the East Village in the early-80s and has since built an encyclopaedic knowledge of music, as demonstrated by his two popular books on the subject: "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" and the sardonic DJ manual, "How To DJ (Properly)".

For his mix, Bill has brought together a collection of the tracks that define the post-punk era for him, a time when genres smashed together with tremendous creative force and music expanded its frontiers in every direction. Unsurprisingly from a published author, Bill provided us with a lengthy description of his mix, complete with a track-by track dissection. You can read it in full on our blog, but in short, PORTERHOUSEBLUES is an ode to the post-punk era when "everything seemed possible all at once".

You can catch Bill playing at Electric Elephant this summer alongside Michael Mayer, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Justin Robertson, Trevor Jackson and many more.
