Raf Simons grew up in a small Flemish village near the Belgian/German border, where music became his main means of escape from what he perceived as the monotony of day to day life. Rallying against a world devoid of arts or culture, music has remained a driving force within his work, with David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Joy Division all referenced in his early collections.
Starting his career as a furniture designer before making the jump to fashion - a world in which he has excelled - in 1995 Raf Simons launched his first menswear collection in Milan and since then has gone on to work for some of the industry's leading labels, such as Jil Sander and Dior.
Thanks to his unique, postmodern vision, Raf Simons remains an industry favourite, combining clean lines and sharp tailoring with a bold signature aesthetic.
