Martine Rose
Prior to launching her own label, Martine was a founding member of highly-acclaimed fashion label LMNOP. Their collections were sold internationally with a core fan base in both Japan and London.
Martine Rose's third collection is a fine balance between classic shirting and contemporary sportswear. This season, the fit is slim and the colour palatte strict and contained to emphasis the subtle contrast in fabric and surprising sports/work wear detailing. Huge circular panels drop into and disrupt traditional silhouettes, metallic foils punctuate cotton poplins and hi-tech performance bases and quilted panels are cut into flat shapes. An urban, street sensibility meets and more abstract aesthetic.
This collection reflects a London heritage and fluency with pop culture that when handled with sensitivity results in a directional, believable and entirely modern new story for men.
S/S 10 SEASONAL NOTE
Outerwear influences continue to provide for Martine Rose's concise S/S 10 collection of 10 shirts, the fourth season offering from her eponymous label.
Exuberant pinks and oranges constrast with more masculine tones of navy and black for a playful yet classic feel.
Technical treatments include textured, rigid, machine-washable wax that becomes more distressed with every wash. Traditionally used on sportswear it adds a dynamic edge when juxtaposed with soft cotton and refined silk. Chunky zips are both functional and decorative, velcro and buttons add unexpected details to traditional shirting.
'Embracing the use of colour adn pattern is soemthing that was a big step for me, as it's not an area I usually venture towards. The boldest elements of my autumn/winter '09, such as foil detailing, were so well received that I wanted to be able to move further forward for summer and I'm really pleased with the results.'
