Since her success in winning both ‘Best Menswear’ and ‘Best Collection’ awards at 2003 Graduate Fashion Week, London based Japanese designer Yuko Yoshitake has been developing her own label.
Experimentation, subtle detail and a sense of fun are key parts of her design philosophy, and the clothes combine the quality cutting and fabrics of classic tailoring with a more sports influenced, relaxed look. Domestic objects or people on the street often provide inspiration, and Yoshitake strives to make something unexpected out of the ordinary and everyday.
Her latest collection utilises plastic cutlery in prints and accessories, and was influenced by surrealist film-maker Luis Bunuel’s “The Exterminating Angel’ – about a dinner party which the guests are mysteriously unable to leave. For oki-ni, Yuko Yoshitake has created three exclusive styles, including a hoody featuring a zip puller especially created in collaboration with YKK.
