Founded in 1966 by Paul van Doren, Vans instantly hit upon a winning formula selling with their rubber deck shoe, which they called the "authentic", from their shoe store in Anaheim, California. After becoming the sneaker of choice for skaters in the 70s, Vans are now one of the most recognisable and best loved shoe brands in the world.
