A Meeting With Phil Manzanera 15/12/09
As you might have seen from our "coming soon" page, we are working with Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera on a special project due to land in springtime. Its amazing just how much great music this man has made over the last 30 years... aside from the more well known Roxy classics, Phil has a string of solo albums, containing some truly experimental music! A particular favourite is "Gone Flying", from his 1978 album "K-Skope"
Another project that Manzanera is often remembered for is "801" a short-lived collaboration founded with Brian Eno, Francis Monkman, Bill MacCormick, Simon Phillips and Lloyd Watson. The project only lasted for a handful of gigs, but thankfully their last gig in the Royal Elizabeth Hall was recorded, and released as an lp..801 Live set new standards for live recordings because it was one of the first LPs in which all outputs from the vocal microphones, guitar amps and others instruments (except the drums) were fed directly to the mobile studio mixing desk, rather than being recorded via microphones and/or signals fed out the front-of-house PA mixer. The results are amazing and its really worth checking the album out.. Here's a few photos from Phils studio - will post more soon!
