a highlights reel of damir doma's finest moments

introduction

To be honest, we've got a bit of a thing for Damir Doma. It's the one brand that's come along and captured our mood and the way that we are feeling about things right now. We think it's genius. Borrowed directly from the brand’s showroom, our fifth archive pays homage to oki-ni favourite Damir Doma. If you're into exceptional product, then you will be into this.

From the second we saw the product we delved deep and tried to get right into the crux of where it's come from, what makes it tick and where it's going; the answers were exactly as expected. The vision and energy of Damir himself is twinned with a team of likeminded, extremely positive and intelligent individuals, something that makes the brand a force to be reckoned with for the future. I'm of the impression that there is an awful lot more in the tank we haven't been exposed to yet and that makes me even more excited about what's to come.

With our archive feature we've already referenced a lot of different points yet the content has always come from established brands and figureheads. After seeing the consistent level of product coming out of the Damir Doma atelier I really wanted to incorporate a new vision into a feature that was based on history. For me this was the perfect way to do it - although Damir only has a minor amount of seasons under his belt, the history is being written right now. It's the history of the future and its going to be the most important yet.

The main archive is below, but we have also made a little behind-the-scenes video and have an exclusive excert from a interview between oki-ni's Creative Director John Skelton and Damir Doma - both of which you can view via the links below

biography

Croation born designer Damir Doma grew up in Germany and studied fashion in Munich and Berlin where he graduated in 2004 with magna cum laude for the best collection. The young designer then went to Antwerp, working in the studios of Raf Simons and Dirk Schoenberger. It was the tuition of Simons in particular that broadened and shaped Doma's perception of the fashion and the arts. Under Simon's teachings Doma's personal aesthetic was nurtured and encouraged.

In 2006 Doma launched his own label and not longer after (July 2007) he debuted at Paris fashion week. A loyal following quickly developed which has translated into both critical acclaim and commercial success. His collections to date are thoughtful and sensitive; sheer fabrics, draped silhouettes and subtle fluidity. Inspired by multiple expressions of identity and fragile ephemeral qualities of the body his pieces explore contemporary interpretations of masculinity. Among his sources of inspiration Doma lists emotions, nature and artists such as Gottfried Helnwein, Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter.
