Maison Martin Margiela

A graduate of Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Art, the Belgian-born Martin Margiela founded Maison Martin Margiela in 1988 before showing his first women’s ready-to-wear collection for spring/summer 1989. While his work is closely associated with the deconstructionist fashion movement of the 1980s, it is characterised by a poetic appreciation of imperfection, personality and eccentricity; Margiela collections have been presented on tube platforms and street corners.

Today, Margiela's work is continued by an anonymous collective who run the label in much the same way, continually redefining luxury, fashion, and design.
